Sarah E Rehmer was born in 1981 in the western suburbs of Chicago, where she continues to work and reside today.
Rehmer graduated from Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois in 2003 with a double major in Photography & Graphic Design. She did not begin to explore collage formally until after graduation. This took her work and turned it inside out… having be formally trained in media that usually exists on a page with finite boundaries, collage brought about the opportunity to give depth coming up and off the surface along with texture that was until now only interpretative. However, old habits die hard and works are still composed within “the frame.”
The mixture of found object, encaustic, actual photographs and bits of typography and other graphic works all brought together on a single surface through collage has allowed Rehmer to intertwine all three disciplines which in there own right are very different, but lend well to working together and are always kept close at hand.
